Why We Use Upholstery Grade Fabrics and What That Means

When you choose a Bowsers bed, the fabric isn’t just a surface detail. It’s a statement of quality, safety, and thoughtful design. We exclusively use upholstery grade fabrics throughout our collection. Here’s what that means for your dog’s comfort and your home’s style.

1. Durability That Stands Up

Upholstery grade fabrics are made for furniture that sees daily use, which makes them ideal for dog beds. These textiles are woven to be strong, stable, and highly resistant to wear. Many carry double-rub durability ratings of 30,000 or more, which indicates their ability to withstand years of friction without thinning or tearing.

In practical terms, this means our beds hold their shape, resist sagging, and stay smooth over time. You won’t see pilling, stretching, or surface wear the way you might with standard pet fabrics.

2. Easy to Live With and Easy to Clean

Our fabrics aren’t just strong. They’re designed for real homes. Tightly woven fibers naturally repel dirt and hair, making them easier to keep clean. Most can be spot cleaned with ease, and many are machine washable without losing their structure or texture.

Whether it’s mud from a walk or daily shedding, these fabrics hold up and clean up without fuss.

3. Certified Safe for Pets and People

All of our fabrics are sourced from Oeko Tex Standard 100 certified mills. This global certification ensures the materials are free from harmful substances including formaldehyde, flame retardants, and heavy metals. Every component, from thread to dye, is tested for safety.

You can feel confident that your dog is resting on something designed with wellness in mind.

4. A Fabric for Every Space

With over 90 fabric options to choose from, our collection is as versatile as it is refined. Whether you lean toward textured neutrals, structured tweeds, soft velvets, or performance blends, there’s a fabric that will integrate beautifully into your home.

Our goal has always been to create pet products that don’t feel like compromises. These beds are designed to look like they belong, as intentional and considered as the furniture around them.

5. Proven Where It Matters Most

While we haven’t put our fabrics through formal lab testing, they have been put through something more honest: daily life with dogs. Every fabric we offer has been lived with, tested, and trusted in real homes, including our own. We pay attention to what lasts, what cleans well, and what still looks beautiful after years of use.
